PITY OR POWER: A POEM FOR TOKE MAKINWA: ENTERTAINMENT

PITY OR POWER: A POEM FOR TOKE MAKINWA

Toke Makinwa, a TV personality, has helped a lot of Nigerian couples get through their hurdles in life. As I have said, I cannot judge at all, but then i feel saddened by the turn of events on her.
It is only natural for Nigerians to help soil your image more , when a grain of sand is found on you.
Also for anybody who feels his strength has been flawed by the world, I only hope this helps you  know your own strength

PITY OR POWER

In the eyes of the world,
I have had my dignity spat on
My sincerity besmirched
My love called into question
My integrity jeered at.

I used to sit afloat the turbulent sea
Motioning the wind to a peaceful course.
I have broken the chains of Amistad,
Trod through burning coals,
Crushed the sabre held out against the World.
 But Now, right now
Here I am,
My own little world crumbling
At the face of the World.
He stares brazenly at me.
He even says “ You see, I told you so.
Let us see what your bravery can afford now”

I try to stand firm and strong
My bone marred and fragile; weak from within.
The bone of my bone, Flesh of my flesh
Whose arms shall I lean on

A flash in my mind
An angel with  a placard
“Pity or power!”
“Pity or power!”
A calming touch and a sigh of relief

Then I say
“I may be down and out
Hit the rock bottom
But I am not darned forever
The World will, in time to come,

See me moving Everest”

Alright let's get  down to brass tacks.  Today,  we are looking at the idiom Rest assured What does it mean

Do you say 'talk more of' or 'talk less of'? Also, how to pronounce 'parliament'

My beautiful KIB students, today,  you will be happy learning the correct way to express yourselves. Nigerians have a way of changing typical English expressions to suit them. Someone still had to argue with me that the English expression 'Better the devil you know than the devil you don't "  is so wrong and does not make sense.  He opines that angel should be there.  He forgets that English can be quite illogical to our Nigerian minds. Lol. People say things like. 'He has not even proposed talk more of walking down the aisle with me' 'He does not have a car,  talk less a house" Well these two expressions or collocations are not common in British and American English. Here are the universal conventional English collocations for Nigerian English's  'Talk more of' and 'Talk less of',  #LetAlone 'Let alone' is  used to indicate that something is far less likely or suitable than something else already mentioned. E.g ...
