Fish Rain: Understanding the Process behind this Aberrant Natural Phenomenon

Fish Rain: Understanding the Process behind this Aberrant Natural Phenomenon.

We have heard a lot of information concerning fish rain; Some believe it happens, others believe it does not. It may seem unreasonable and incredible for somebody to believe without reservations, that fishes can rain as well as some othersmaller aquatic animals. Well, believe it or not, anything is possible. The fact that we all gravitate towards the earth doesn’t mean that something with some mass wouldn’t defy gravity.

Yes, it rained fish in Thailand sometimes in April and when I checked some popular Nigerian blogs that carried the news, I discovered that majority of Nigerians couldn’t concur with the news. Well, it doesn’t surprise me a bit. The Romans really dealt with Galileo for disproving the system of Ptolemy by bringing forth such enlightenment which we currently now take for granted.

The case is not completely different with this one. Some people deny the fact that fishes can rain just because they don’t understand how that is possible. So, I made a bit of a research and I am not going to bore you with all those jaw breaking scientific jargons.

Did you know about tornadic waterspout? This is the only basic explanation for fish apparently evaporating into the sky, condensing and then raining down on the city…lol. Tornadic Waterspout is a whirling mass of water occurring on water bodies; a funnel like gyre usually having a connection from the water body to the sky.

Some veteran scientists after so much study, are asserting that some fish can be sucked up into the sky through that unusual natural conduit. These sea creatures when sucked up, can travel,by the help of buffeting clouds, for about 100miles in the sky before raining down on an entirely different location. Sometimes, when these creatures rain down, they are already dead; although some might probably be alive.

Tornadic waterspout is the most credible explanation for fish rain; although scientists are yet to ascertain while the fishes usually carried, seem to be of the same species. Why not different species of medium size fish?

Sometimes it can rain birds, and this one cannot be disputed because it doesn’t seem to defy gravity. Migratory birds can sometimes rain down when they have met their waterloo in the sky— thunder storm.

Finally, I can’t really say for sure if fish rain is some sort of good omen. It hasn’t actually rained fish here in Nigeria, so we don’t know exactly what omen fish rain could potentially have for Nigerians.

So when next you go out , please be at alert and make sure your umbrella can shield you from the raining turtles, crabs, fish and unfortunately, aquatic snakes too…lol.  I can only imagine somebody running in the rain and suddenly a snake falls on his shoulder and around the neck.  Heaven knows the kind of shriek such a person would let out to grace the ears of the people dashing home too.

So, finally, here is to all of us, may our lives be less troubled with cats and dogs rain and be more filled with plenteous fish rain just like the manna sent by God.

Cheers!

  1. Hahahahaahaah!!! Great, I likes but watched this on national geographic, scientists couldn't explain so well nor confirm that the spout could carry for long!

    1. waterspout is the milder form of tornadic waterspout. ordinary waterspout cant lift anything out of water, but tornadic waterspout can do so. it has the strength a sea parting into two.
it has not been really verified , but it is the safest explanation for such unusual phenomenon.

How to use 'many a' and 'a great deal of' in a sentence. How to pronounce 'impasse'

Good morning KIB  earthlings. Lets get down to brass tacks. Let's look at the use of verbs. Yesterday someone brought a statement to me and enquired if it were correct. 'many a fellow knows the truth' Many a driver ploughs this road daily' 'Many a teacher doesn't know how to  English'. All these sentences are correct. According to Oxford dictionary, Many a: ( formal: always used with a singular noun and a singular verb) means a large number of something. E.g many a young person has experimented with drugs.   So,  don't pluralise anything in the sentence because there is an 'A' already. 'Many a teachers like to flog their students ' is wrong. 'A great deal' How do you use 'a great deal'? A great deal takes a singular verb. E.g A great deal of bananas is planted in the north. 'A great deal' takes a singular verb.  Finally,  the pronunciation of impasse is /'ampa:s/ Not (impas) It's not Enem...

Is it 'off head', 'off hand' 'off pat' or 'by heart'?

I love all the new students in my class. You guys are awesome by the way. 😀😀 Today. I want to give you a better expression for saying that 'you know something very well'. #Offhead? There is nothing like offhead. 'I know it off head' is wrong. #Offhand? What does offhand mean? It mean without previous thought or consideration. Just like saying 'on the spur of moment' , 'immediately', 'spontaneously'. So, do you just know something offhand? No...not at all. You can say something offhand, do anything offhand but then it seems weird to say ' I know the answer offhand'. It is normal 'to say the answer offhand'. Do you get my drift? People don't know anything spontaneously, rather, they  say what they already know, spontaneously. Now to the final expression #HaveSomethingOffPat? It means to know something or be able to do something perfectly; be perfect master of something . So rather tha...
